OUR PHILOSOPHY
Wrestling is the original proving ground.
Ground Theory exists to develop complete wrestlers and complete people. We expose our athletes to all three styles folkstyle, freestyle, and Greco-Roman so they enter every match with answers, instincts, and the unshakable confidence that comes from doing the work.
Why Ground Theory
Built to out-work · out-think · out-last
Four pillars that turn raw athletes into composed competitors.
Fundamentals
Stance, motion, level change, finish. The non-negotiables coached relentlessly until they’re reflex.
Competition Ready
Live wrestling, tournament prep, and three-style exposure so nothing on match day is unfamiliar.
Life Skills
Discipline, accountability, and grit forged on the mat travel with you through every classroom and career.
Community
A brotherhood of grinders who push, pick up, and out-train the room beside you every single practice.
We’re here to help
Who is this for?
Youth Wrestlers
Middle and high school athletes looking to compete and improve their game.
Beginners
Never wrestled before? No problem — we start from the fundamentals and build up.
Competitors
Serious athletes training for scholastic and tournament competition at every level.
Families
Discipline, teamwork, and confidence that wrestling builds off the mat too.
The Standard
You don’t get given.
You earn.
No participation trophies. No shortcuts. Every starting spot, every medal, every ounce of respect on the mat is paid for in sweat and repetition. That’s the contract here.
Meet the Coaches
Led By Champions
A three-time NHSCA High School All-American out of Alabama, state champion and state runner-up before competing at Upper Iowa University and finishing at Iowa State. His coaching philosophy is shaped by international wrestling as much as American folkstyle — a constant student of freestyle and Greco-Roman. He believes the best wrestlers are built by exposure to every style, every position, and every level of competition. Off the mat, he’s a husband, a dad, and a dog owner who coaches because wrestling met him where he was and made him better.
A Davison, Michigan native who wrestled for one of the most respected high school programs in the country, earning All-State honors twice. He continued at Central Michigan University — a top-25 nationally ranked team — as a three-year varsity letterman, two-year starter, and Edinboro Open champion. His coaching philosophy is built on fundamentals. Mastering the basics is what separates good wrestlers from great ones, and the work ethic developed in the room carries far beyond the mat.
